It has been an incredible few years starting our non-profit, Concussions Speaks. We began with a simple idea, spread stories about concussion recoveries, and have evolved into a more preventative, educational community. Being able to play a role in the larger concussion and brain injury community has been an emotional, exciting, and extremely rewarding experience. The best part to this day has been connecting with individuals that have had concussions and comparing experiences. We all share similar frustrations with school, sports, doctors, friends, yet still find a way to joke around with each other and laugh about the most difficult moments. We have found another common feeling has been the lack of clarity provided by medical professionals, and we understand that unfortunately the science is not fully definitive, but we think this grey zone provides a wonderful opportunity for our community to grow and give value to one another.
Most importantly though, we hope to embrace that we each have our own distinctive story and have all learned something different that we can share with one another. Concussions Speak has been working to upgrade our website, and is thrilled to announce this as the debut of our new forum for blogging, communicating and sharing everyone’s experience. We look forward to doing more speaking events to share our community and hope you will share as well!
